Saga Peras Ugut 4

Posted by tunabdulrazak on 27/08/2009

Saga Peras Ugut 3

Posted by tunabdulrazak on 27/08/2009

Dia pun lari lah.

Sebelum pergi ke Pontianak, I jumpa Roni. Dia nampaknya masih nak kasih peluang kepada Kimoi. Dia bilang ramai temannya sedang cari Kimoi.

Saga Peras Ugut 2

Posted by tunabdulrazak on 27/08/2009

Saya interview prt itu dan beri nasihat dan the ‘dos and the dont’s’.

Saga Peras Ugut 1

Posted by tunabdulrazak on 24/08/2009

Selepas pilihanraya, kami sering berjumpa minum kopi.

Giant & Rare Nepenthes

Posted by tunabdulrazak on 09/05/2009

A wild orchid collector was shocked to have bumped into a rare giant pitcher plant.

The nepenthes is very difficult to take as they grow only on steep sides and edges of limestone mountains. He only found one vine. Of that vine he managed to make only 10 cuttings.

SDNU National Gawai Dinner 2009

Posted by tunabdulrazak on 05/05/2009

The much awaited dinner will be held on Saturday, 16 May 2009, 6.45 pm at the Christian Ecumenical Centre, Kuching. It is organised by Sarawak Dayak National Union.

The theme is “Showcasing Dayak Cultural Heritage”. Other than the local cultural presentations, there will also be cultural troupe from Pontianak, Kalimantan Barat.

For those who missed last year’s sold-out MALAM DAYAK BORNEO WITH GOVERNOR AGUSTINE TERAS NARANG dinner, now is another opportunity to enjoy the mesmerising, dramatic yet very ‘Dayak’ show.

Dinner Tickets at RM500 per table are still available at SDNU Hqs. You may contact Salam at 017 811 6561 as well for tickets. The dealer tables are sold out.

There will be Muslim Dayaks attending the dinner, who are doctors and civil servants. Therefore food to be served is halal for all, including ‘anyang’ (In Bidayuh) or ‘pansuah’ (in Iban). Optional drink such as beer and tuak, which are only halal for non-Muslims, are also available on requests.

This is a non-political and a non-politic-affiliated event. As an individual Dayak, I suggest the guests leave their Datukship, pehinship or whatever politically motivated ‘award’ at the door before entering the dining hall. You are however encouraged to bring in your personally achieved awards such as Phd, Dr and Dayak-recognised positions, such as Chairman SADIA Sarikei Branch for instance and ‘YB’. This will make it easy for you and other fellow Dayaks to mingle.

Dinners must report to the organising committee any drink to be brought in to the dinner. This is to make sure that the drink is safe for other fellow dinners.

And later we proceed to Gawai With The Governor on 19 May 2009.

Pokok Laila?

Posted by tunabdulrazak on 02/05/2009

This Muslim Polish immigrant married Mr Taib, a Sarawakian magistrate, a year before I was born, in Australia.

She was always being commended by Standard Chartered Bank staffers and customers, as humble and down to earth. Despite being a chief minister’s wife, she would rather stand, joined the queue and waited for her turn to maintian her accounts. Her police escorts would keep an eye from a distance.

The bank officers and managers would feel uneasy and guilty for having failed to coax her to their office, and let the junior staff sort all the transactions, like what other corporate customers enjoyed to do.

She was once very angry with me, or rather my organisation that I represented at that time: she invited me to her residence for tea and discussion, but I did not turn up. My wife gave birth to our third daughter that morning. I thought that charity starts at home so I opted to be with my beloved wife and new born baby.

“Datin is now waiting with cakes and drink at her residence”, Dr Morni, her secretary pleaded, from his Petra Jaya Bapa Malaysia Office.

After Normah, wife of Mr ex-CM Rahman, died, she was honoured by the Sarawak government, by naming a State Flower after her, Orchid Normah.

Laila had successfully organised the planting of thousands of trees. Some say that she wanted to make up for the numerous trees felled by Mr CM Taib’s timber-friends. Perhaps the Sarawak Government should consider honouring her with a State Tree, Pokok Laila. That tree species ought to be tall, green and perenially beautiful.

Laila’s 35% share in CMS is a lot of money. I hope that the money could be put into Laila Foundation to assist the educational needs of children of displaced Dayaks, to prevent them from being squatters in their grandfathers’ land.

Any suggestions on the candidate-trees?

Pak Taip penis was spiced, scrotum torched.

Posted by tunabdulrazak on 29/04/2009

Forty year old Pak Taip screamed in agony. His scrotum was torched with lighters. His penis was embalmed with mashed red paddy chillies.

The head swelled. Unlike during erection when the head sparkles, the blood bloated stem proudly stand as tough as a stump, the head was then darkish, bluish and limping.

The local Indonesian police of Dusun Gombang, Senakin, Kabupaten Landak publicised the punishment to remind the local folks that rapists will be severely punished.

Pak Amit is now considered an animal by his village folks. He repeatedly raped his own SMP3 (Form 3), seventeen year old daughter for the past one year. The crime was only revealed when her half-sister, who is dumb, told their mother.

As is the normal practice in Dayak village tradition, Pak Taip the suspect and the seven-month pregnant victim were summoned to a family meeting, attended by elders both from the husband’s and the wife’s sides.

Realising protection from the elders, the victim revealed the sexual ordeals she suffered, by her father and how she was threatened with death and severe harm, should she reveal the rapes.

Pak Taip pleaded guilty. His only two reasons were that his wife rejected his sexual advances and his inability to afford services from prostitutes.

His wife’s puzzle was solved that night. She had actually been wondering why her husband never touch her for the past one year.

Immediately after the ‘court hearing’, Pak Taip was sent to the local police in Senakin. After a week of punishment with lighters and red hot chillies, he was sent to prison for seventeen years.

As normally happen, the victim suffer further ‘rapes’. Her mother, who believed that she consented and stole her love, chased her out from the house. She had since thence, not been to school.

Todate, her whereabout is not known. Her mother is not interested to know.

Please pray for the victim!

SKY writes a Love Letter to Masing!

Posted by tunabdulrazak on 02/04/2009

Good read.

http://hornbillunleashed.wordpress.com/2009/04/02/an-open-letter-to-james-masing/

Dear James,

You have been reported by the Borneo Post online (31.3.2009) as blaming Jawa Garang for the lack of development in Batang Ai, because Jawa did not lobby for projects during his five terms as MP.

This sort of political narrative from a personal friend of 25 years astonishes me. Surely a person with such academic credential and long record in politics like you can say something more inspiring?

Development projects are a right to be enjoyed by tax payers, and not candies to be dangled by the ruling parties in any election to fish for votes.

Ibans are tax-payers too

The poor Ibans in Batang Ai may not pay much in income tax, because they are so poor in cash income. But for everything they buy, such as daily necessities, farm tools, fertilizers, fuel, machinery, construction materials, food, clothing, seeds, and everything they need, they pay the excise tax, sales tax, and the import tax already hidden in the retail price.

The only tax-free things they enjoy are the air they breathe. As tax-paying citizens, they have the basic human right to development in basic infrastructure.

Social Contract

Then there is the social contract. I do not mean the silly social contract that UMNO refers to. I mean the one proposed by Hobbes, Locke, and Rousseau, whom you must have read in your pursuit of a Ph. D.

That contract is a theoretical construct, but its does offer the ground for the legitimacy of government.

There, a government is legitimate morally as long as it looks after the personal security, the prosperity, and the natural rights of citizens. When that government fails in its duty to the governed, then the people have the right to change the government – by a revolution even according to Locke.

Therefore, it is the duty of the federal and state government to provide basic development to the people of Batang Ai, even without the MP lobbying for it! That is what a government for the people, by the people, and of the people is supposed to do.

No money?

You may offer the lame excuse that Sarawak is too vast, with over 5000 villagers spread in isolation. It is too expensive to provide basic infrastructure to all poor Sarawakians in the rural area.

How about the money generated from the timber wealth? How can they be channelled to the people rather than a few connected individuals? How about the profit generated by land use for plantation purposes? These are within the jurisdiction of the Sarawak state government after all.

How about the fantastic wealth generated by Sarawak’s indigenous oil and gas? Since you and your state government are so good at lobbying, why have you not lobbied for 20% royalty from the black gold beneath our feet?

Look at the West

In West Malaysia, electricity supply has reached 95% of the population. I think clean water and road access are about that figure. I do not like UMNO, but let’s give them credit for making some real change in rural Malaya. In the Klang Valley, the per capita income is something like RM 5000 per month! Lim Guan Eng has just announced that there are no longer cases of hard-core poverty in Penang State. Somehow, some of the money used in developing Malaya must have come from revenue from Sarawak oil and gas?

In contrast, 80% of the Ibans probably make less than RM 1000 per year.

Since you and your colleagues in the Sarawak BN are such effective lobbyists, can you please get some more funds from UMNO to eradicate poverty in Sarawak?

You and Sarawak BN have a powerful bargaining chip. You can threaten to withdraw support for the BN at the federal level, and help Pakatan Rakyat form the next federal government. After all, UMNO now depends on you guys to hold on to power in Putrajaya!

Many years ago, you told me in a private conversation that the Dayaks cannot be in the opposition. When I started in politics in 1978 in Bandar Kuching, many Chinese voters told me the same thing too.

This is where we disagree. The Dayaks can be in an opposition that can take power to become the government for the sake, not only of the Dayaks, but also for justice for all Sarawakians and all Malaysians.

I am now a private citizen and a pensioner. The Borneo Post would probably not print my letter. So I have to print it here, in cyberspace. I hope one of the readers will send it directly to you

If you choose to reply, please send it to my email below. I promise you it will be published here in full and without censorship. Then we can have a frank debate between two fellow Anak Sarawak, just as we did about two decades ago in the media on the Bakun Dam.

Good health to you and your family,

Yours truly,

Sim Kwang Yang
