Malaysia is using satelite to fight illegal logging. Unfortunately it is only practised in Malaya and not Sarawak.
Most of the loses of forest occur in Sarawak of Borneo. It is believed that illegal logging makes up to about a third of Malaysia’s timber exports.
Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi last year pledged to help to reduce further damages.
Deputy Prime Minister Najib Razak, who also heads the National Forestry Council, later warned that illegal logging could undermine Malaysia.
Why not in Sarawak Najib, where the service is needed more? Are you worried that the findings will lead to activities of peoples who are connected to certain Sarawak political figures?
